I graduated from the Physics Department of Warsaw University in 1991. In 1995 I did my PhD at the Copernicus Center. After that I spent three years at the Physics Department of the University of Durham (U.K.), where I collaborated with Chris Done. I've been back to CAMK in Warsaw since returning from Durham. I obtained the "habilitacja" degree in 2002. In 2008 I was nominated by the President of Poland to be a professor.

I am interested in properties of compact accreting objects (white dwarfs, neutron stars, and my favorite black holes) and, in particular, high energy (X-ray) emission from them. Here is a description of my recent research.

Beside astrophysics as a science I am interested in astronomical education. I occasionally give talks for pupils and students, as well as teachers on both astronomical topics and how to present them to students. For quite a few years I had been an active member of the Almukantarat astronomy club, which evolved from even earlier initiatives aimed at helping talented students to gain deeper knowledge in many branches of science, arts and technology.
